New York Yankees TV Intros Through History

It’s almost Pavlovian. Hearing a great intro or theme music can get you revved up for a game. Throughout the television history of New York Yankees baseball, there are quite a few that let you know the game is on and about to start. From WPIX to the YES Network and everything in between, here’s a look at some of those intros.

Here’s some intros from the 1970’s, 80’s and the 40th anniversary intro by Mel Allen in 1990, for the Yanks on WPIX 11. The intros use the music from the “here come the Yankees” theme song, with the beat changed up a bit for each era.

This one is from MSG Network in 1992.

This clip shows intros from 1992 and 1994 on MSG and 1987 on SportsChannel. I kinda like the one from 1994, takes you around the sights of the City.

I have a feeling a lot of Yankee fans will agree with me when I say that this is my favorite. Don’t get me wrong, I love the YES Network but this theme on MSG from 1996 to 2001 is my baseball childhood. It’s pretty much perfect. The music, the sax, the montage.

Ah, I love this highlight montage right here. This video is the intro and music used on WNYW FOX 5, from 1999-2001.

Finally, the modern YES Network intro, which means it’s almost time to play ball!
