Final Four

(2) Moneyball v (1) Field of Dreams

Some people were upset that Moneyball made it to the Final Four, calling it a slow and boring movie about a team that never won anything. While I disagree with that assessment, I did find it comical that Moneyball (both the book and movie) failed to mention three very key factors to the A’s success in the early-2000’s: Barry Zito, Tim Hudson, and Mark Mulder. I wonder if the Oakland big 3 are salty about that whole thing?

In the end it did not matter. Field of Dreams prevailed and advanced to the championship game because it is flat-out a better movie. It is more re-watchable, quotable, and fun. It almost makes me want to visit Iowa.

(1) The Sandlot v (1) Major League

A 70 – 30 rout for The Sandlot over Major League. So far, The Sandlot has steamrolled a movie about a 12 year old who inherits the Twins’ manager job, fictitious Angels who help a baseball team win for the sake of a foster child, and a story about the city of Cleveland finally winning something. Who wants s’more?

Championship

(1) Field of Dreams v (1) The Sandlot

First, let me apologize for the spelling of “Field of Dreams.” I may or may not have been out last night and quickly typed the poll on my phone. Despite the fact that I feel like an ump that blew a major call, I do not think the spelling had any outcome on the final result. However, I will understand if Field of Dreams appeals and we have to do this again next year.

The Sandlot is a worthy champion. After all, baseball is a kid’s game and The Sandlot perfectly encapsulates that. So, without further adieu, your 2016 Baseball Movie March Madness Champion… NIGHT GAME!
