Yankees game 52 preview (6/1/15)

Michael Pineda (6-2, 3.36 ERA) faces off against his former team as he takes on Felix Hernandez (8-1, 1.91 ERA) and the Mariners. This will be Pineda’s first time facing Seattle since the 2012 trade that sent him to New York in exchange for Jesus Montero. In his five May starts, he went 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA striking out 35 and walking just three through 33 innings. He went 6 2/3 innings against KC giving up just one run on six hits and eight K’s. He is 5-2 with a 2.92 ERA in 12 starts at Safeco.

Pineda is excited to face his former teammate. “He taught me a lot. I learned a lot of things that had to do with being here in the Major Leagues; dressing, how to take the bus, checking the board. The little things that I needed, he explained them to me. He showed me how to take a taxi to go to the field, where is the gate for players to come in. It’s a little thing, but it was very important for me because I didn’t know.”

King Felix is coming off his second shutout of the year giving up just four hits to the Rays in a complete game effort. He is 9-5 with a 2.87 ERA against the Yanks in 17 career games. He has thrown four complete games and two shutouts in those 17 appearances.
