Yankees game 86 preview (7/10/15)

The Yankees end the first half of the season with a three game set in Boston. Michael Pineda (8-5, 3.79 ERA) and Clay Buchholz (7-6, 3.27 ERA) kick things off in game one. Pineda is coming off seven strong shutout innings against the Rays with 10 K’s and five hits. Betances was un-Betances like and gave up two runs so Big Mike came away with a no decision. He is 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA in his four career outings against the Sox.

Buchholz’s season started a little rocky, but he has calmed down as of late going 5-2 with a 1.99 ERA in his last 10 starts. He went the distance his last time out against Houston giving up one run on six hits. He faced the Yanks back in April and was tagged for 10 runs on nine hits through 3 1/3 innings.

Tidbits:

Buchholz has thrown four consecutive quality starts with just three earned runs in that time.

Pineda has four career double digit K games.

Alex Rodriguez is hitting .407 (11-27) against Buchholz with two home runs and 10 RBIs lifetime. The last time he was in Boston, he tied Willie Mays on the all time home run list with a shot over the green monster.
