Game 10: Hot Start Not Enough

Minnesota Twins 7 — New York Yankees 3

Back-to-back home runs to open the game against former Yankee Carl Pavano were not enough in tonight’s 7-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson gave Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Carl Pavano a rude introduction as they each went deep to right field to put the Yankees on the board with a bang. A pair of singles in the inning gave them their only lead of the night but that was all the offense that the Yankees could put together against the former Yankee.

Freddy Garcia struggled out of the gate too but the Twins didn’t take their foot off the gas pedal. In his 5.2 innings of work, he gave up 5 runs on 9 hits. The Twins offense was spread throughout the team as 7 of the 9 in the starting lineup drove in one run. Joe Mauer had a pair of doubles and Justin Morneau hit a home run as well as these two former All-Stars attempt to return to form.

Win – Carl Pavano (1-1)

Loss – Freddy Garcia (0-1)
