Game 11: Stewart Supports Sabathia to the Win

Backup catcher Chris Stewart made a splash in tonight’s 8-3 win over the Minnesota Twins.

 

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Francisco Liriano went just 2.1 innings after giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, the big blow being a two-run single by Chris Stewart in the 4-run 3rd inning. Andruw Jones hit a long home run, his second of the season, off Matt Maloney, the reliever that followed Liriano. Derek Jeter also drove in two tonight.

 

CC Sabathia was able to get his first win of the season. He went 7.1 innings and gave up 3 runs early and settled down. He struck out 7 while giving up just 4 hits. When he settled down, he had set down 13 straight Twins before he gave up his only walk of his start.
