Game 118: Posada, Hughes Make It Count

With a set of six starting pitchers, Phil Hughes entered today’s game as possibly the odd man out. With experience pitching out of the bullpen, Hughes could attempt at helping his cause with an effective outing today. A 9-2 win would appear to be a good outing on his part.

Jorge Posada also got an opportunity with good numbers against the Rays and embraced this opportunity in a big way. The veteran drove in a total of 6 runs, including hitting a grand slam to support the young righty.

Phil Hughes didn’t give up a run until the 6th inning when he gave up a home run. He struck out 6 in this outing and allowed 4 hits but did not let them score through most of his outing.

Curtis Granderson hit his 33rd home run of the season to tie for the major league lead.
