With A.J. Burnett on the mound in August and donning the Yankees uniform, the odds were not in his favor to win as he is winless in August with the Yankees, until tonight.
It was not the ideal outing as he went 5.2 innings (1I out short if a “quality start”) and gave up 3 runs on 10 hits but with Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter driving in 2 and 3I runs, respectively, you usually win.
On another note, Rafael Soriano surrrendered his first run since coming off of the disabled list.
