Game 12: Morneau’s Twin Bombs Beat Bombers

Minnesota Twins 6 — New York Yankees 5

Justin Morneau crushed the ball in tonight’s 6-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

Hiroki Kuroda was the victim of Morneau’s bat as he surrendered both home runs to the Twins first baseman. In 4.1 innings of work, Kuroda gave up 6 runs on 10 hits. Clay Rapada and Boone Logan were solid out of the bullpen as Rapada struck out 2 over 1.2 scoreless innings pitched and Logan struck out 4 over 2 scoreless innings.

Robinson Cano may have gotten his swing back with a 2 extra-base hit night. He got a double to left center early and a solo home run as well to give the Yankees some run production out of the 4 spot in the lineup. Nick Swisher also supplied run support behind Cano with a two-run single in the first as the Yankees offense attempted to support the number 2 starter of the rotation. Derek Jeter cut the two-run deficit down to one with his 4th home run of the season in the 9th but a strikeout of Curtis Granderson and a deep fly out to right field by Mark Teixeira cut off the short rally as the Yankees have dropped 2 of 3 games with the Twins at home for the first time since 2001.
