Game 131: Bombs Away

In tonight’s 8-3 victory, the Yankees lived up to their Bronx Bombers nickname. The Yankees hit a total of 5 home runs tonight including back-to-back-to-back home runs in the 6th. The big bat was swung by MVP-candidate Curtis Granderson who hit his 37th & 38th home runs to take the ML-lead.

The back-to-back-to-back home runs came from the bats of Robinson Cano (23), Nick Swisher (20), and Andruw Jones (11). The first 2 home runs knocked starting pitcher Brian Matusz out of the game and the last of the three home runs welcomed reliever Chris Jakubauskas.

The pitcher to earn the win with this offensive support was Ivan Nova. His 14th win of the season didn’t have a good start but he kept the Orioles from taking the lead after receiving run support. After giving up 1 run in each of the 1st 3 innings, he settled down to go 7 innings.
