Game 14: Long Ball Rains Down on Fenway’s Birthday

New York Highlanders 6 — Boston Red Sox 2

Five home runs fueled the Yankees to victory over the Boston Red Sox on the 100th birthday of Fenway Park by a score of 6-2.

Alex Rodriguez’s solo home run in the 5th was his 631st home run of his career, passing his former teammate Ken Griffey Jr. for 5th on the all-time home run leaders. Nick Swisher and Russell Martin also supplied solo home run offense in the 2nd and 8th inning, respectively. But the big bat surprisingly came from Eric Chavez, who hit a pair of solo home runs.

Ivan Nova continued his winning way as, counting last season, he got his 15th consecutive winning decision today. In 6 innings of work, he scattered 7 hits and allowed just 2 runs with no walks and 5 strikeouts. He is just one more winning decision away from tying the longest in Yankees history, 16 by Roger Clemens in 2001.

Win – Ivan Nova (3-0)

Loss – Clay Buchholz (1-1)
