Game 18: Beltre Beats Bombers

New York Yankees 3 — Texas Rangers 7

Bad news comes in bunches as an injury becomes worse and the starting pitcher struggled in tonight’s 7-3 loss to the Texas Rangers.

Following the announcement that Michael Pineda will miss the entire season, Phil Hughes took the mound and struggled, going just 2.2 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits including a home run to third baseman Adrian Beltre. David Phelps also pitched in tonight’s game and went 2.1 innings. The Texas offense also got the best of the rookie as he gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks including a pair of solo home runs by Mike Napoli and Mitch Moreland.

The Yankees offense showed their struggles with runners in scoring position. Raul Ibanez drove in 2 of the 3 runs tonight. He hit his 3rd home run of the season and also hit a run-scoring double. The Yankees were 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position and could not figure out the Rangers bullpen. Winning pitcher Robbie Ross pitched 2.2 perfect innings. For those Yankees fans still cheering on Jeter’s outstanding start, he did get 2 more hits tonight, raising his average to .420.

Win – Robbie Ross (4-0)
