Game 25: Rally Falls Feet Short

New York Yankees 3 — Kansas City Royals 4

A few feet between safe and out was the final difference in a close 4-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals.

David Phelps had his first career start and went just 4 innings due to his pitch count reaching 85. He allowed just 2 runs on 6 hits in what could be a good sign that he may have another start in his near future. D.J. Mitchell also pitched 1.2 innings and gave up a run as well. Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas played a huge role in the first home victory for his team. Moustakas drove in 3 of the Royals’ 4 runs and made an impressive play to close out the game as well.

Derek Jeter had another multi-hit game to continue silencing critics. The Yankees shortstop went 4 for 5 with a double and two runs scored. His average is now up to .404. The Yankees offense as a whole managed to get 13 hits but could not drive in runs as they went 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position. With Derek Jeter on 3rd and Alex Rodriguez at the plate, a questionable strike 2 forced Alex Rodriguez to work out of a hole and he managed to get it to a full count. On the full count, Rodriguez put the ball in play but the Royals third baseman bare-handed the ball and threw him out by a few feet and finished the game.
