Game 34: Efforts Fall Short

A.J. Burnett pitched 7 innings allowing only one hit, but it was a home run and he did walk 5. Congratulations to Eric Hosmer on his first career home run (players seem to love doing that kind of thing in NY spotlight huh?)

The offense was not able to come through when it counted. The Yankees outhit the Royals 12 to 4 in 11 innings, but were outscored 4 to 3. The offense was 2 for 16 with runners in scoring position. If the Yankees got more hits with runners in scoring position, this game would not have gotten to extra innings.

In addition, Robinson Cano was hit in the helmet tonight but left on his own power more for a precautionary reason I believe. Getting hit in the area of the head and helmet is always a concern so hopefully he will be okay.
