Game 38: Awful Offensive Struggle Continue

via The Associated Press

New York Yankees 1 — Toronto Blue Jays 4

The offense struggled again in last night’s 4-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees offense appeared to not make the trip up to Canada as the offense went a total of 1 for 16 with runners in scoring position. In last night’s game, they were 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position and only got going early with Robinson Cano’s run-scoring double. Curtis Granderson was the only Yankee toΒ  get more than one hit. The lack of offense did not aid Phil Hughes in what was a grinded out effort against a hard-hitting Blue Jays offense.

Phil Hughes went 5.1 innings and the lone run-scoring play that he allowed was a hard fought two-run home run given up to Jose Bautista. Bautista appeared to revive his bat with his 5th home run in 7 games. He kept his team in the game but Hughes did not have his best stuff and made the most of what he had but with the offense not hitting any home runs in this short two-game series; it appears that any deficit of more than one run is too much for this Yankees offense right now.

Win – Drew Hutchison (3-1)

Loss – Phil Hughes (3-5)

Save – Casey Janssen (3)
