Game 57: Bomb After Bomb After Bomb

New York Mets 1 — New York Yankees 9

The Yankees put a pounding on recent no-hit pitcher, Johan Santana, in tonight’s 9-1 over the New York Mets.

Robinson Cano started the offense for the Yankees with a two-run home run off Johan Santana in the 2nd inning. But he wasn’t done starting things for the powerhouse Yankees offense. In the 3rd inning, Robinson Cano delivered his second two-run home run of the night and passed the baton on to Nick Swisher who delivered a solo home run and he passed the baton to Andruw Jones who made it back-to-back-to-back home runs off of Santana, tying a career-worst for the Mets lefty. The Yankees also got 3 runs later in the 7th inning off the erratic youngster, Elvin Ramirez who struggled with finding the strike zone, with 4 walks in 1.2 innings of relief.

The start by Hiroki Kuroda didn’t require much run support as he was dominant through 7 innings. In his start, Kuroda didn’t allow his first hit until the 6th inning double by Omar Quintanilla. With the lead well in-hand, it appears as if the only way the Mets would get Kuroda out of the game was by attempting to get a hit off of him, literally. To end Kuroda’s start, Daniel Murphy lined a ball off of Kuroda’s leg that was deflected without touching the ground as it flew to Alex Rodriguez for the final out of the inning. It was reported that he had a contusion on his leg that does not appear to be serious. Yankees pitching has been producing outstanding outings from each member of the staff.

Win – Hiroki Kuroda (5-6)
