Game 6: Swisher Sweeps O’s

New York Yankees 6 — Baltimore Orioles 4 (10 innings)

CC Sabathia struggled but an extra inning home run by Nick Swisher completed the sweep for the Yankees over the Orioles by a score of 6-4.

CC Sabathia threw 112 pitches in 6 innings of work and certainly didn’t have his best available to him tonight. He had a very tough start that had him at 60 pitches before the end of the 3rd inning. But the bullpen, despite working extra innings last night, supported the ace of the staff. Boone Logan and Rafael Soriano combined for 3 scoreless innings and with another save opportunity, Mariano Rivera shut the door in the 10th.

The Yankees offense started with a bang again as Curtis Granderson got a two-run home run in the 1st inning to give the Yankees an early lead. After the Yankees lost the lead, Granderson came through again and tied the game that eventually went to extra innings. After a 10th inning double by Mark Teixeira, Nick Swisher hit the big blow with a two-run home run that sent Yankees fans home happy and the Yankees home on a strong note with a sweep of the Orioles as they prepare to open the doors of Yankee Stadium for the season.

Win – Rafael Soriano (1-0)
