Game 60: Nova Rises Yankees To 1st Place Tie

New York Yankees 3 — Atlanta Braves 0

Ivan Nova went 7 strong in tonight’s 3-0 win over the Atlanta Braves.

In the 7 innings of work, Nova gave up just 5 singles without allowing a run and walking just 1 while striking out 6. Four relievers combined to finish off the game and didn’t experience much of an offensive threat from the Braves to open this series.

The Yankees offense attacked early an often on Randall Delgado. The Yankees scored a run in each of the 1st 3 innings. Robinson Cano struggled early in the season but he came through in the 1st inning with runners in scoring position and brought in the 1st run of the game. Raul Ibanez continues to be a force in the lineup as he hits a deep home run to right field in the 2nd. With the bases loaded, Delgado threw a wild pitch that brought in the other run of the game. The Yankees continue to struggle with runners in scoring position as they went 1 for 8 but when the Yankees pitchers are as dominant as they have been, a tremendous amount of offense isn’t a necessity.

Win – Ivan Nova (8-2)

Loss – Randall Delgado (4-6)
