Game 62: Granderson’s Blast Completes Sweep

New York Yankees 3 — Atlanta Braves 2

Curtis Granderson backed up Hiroki Kuroda on route to a win by a score of 3-2 and a sweep of the Atlanta Braves. This was their 6th win in a row.

Hiroki Kuroda went 6 innings of dancing out of danger. He gave up 9 hits but the Braves were just 2 for 13 with runners in scoring position as Kuroda kept escaping jams. He was unable to avoid one bad pitch when catcher Brian McCann hit a no doubt two-run home run deep into right field to get the only 2 runs off of Kuroda in tonight’s game.

After Kuroda gave up the early lead that Alex Rodriguez gave him, Curtis Granderson responded in similar fashion. Granderson took a Tim Hudson pitch deep for a two-run home run to reclaim the lead for Kuroda. Boone Logan and Cody Eppley held onto the one-run lead, including a huge double play induced by Eppley in the 8th. Rafael Soriano closed out the game and the Yankees enter their off day with great momentum as they prepare for the first place Washington Nationals.

Win – Hiroki Kuroda (6-6)

Loss – Tim Hudson (4-3)

Save – Rafael Soriano (11)
