Game 66: CC Ks 10 For 10th Straight W

Atlanta Braves 2 — New York Yankees 6

CC Sabathia goes the whole way in tonight’s 6-2 win over the Atlanta Braves for the Yankees 10th straight win.

CC Sabathia surrendered a lead-off triple to Michael Bourn that scored but that was just 1 of 2 runs he would surrender through tonight’s game. He used 116 pitches to strikeout 10 and walk 1 as he helped continue the winning ways. He had small jams in the 4th and 5th innings but was able to escape there with just one run scoring as he joined the string of outstanding starting pitching that is at the heart of the Yankees 10-game winning streak.

The Yankees couldn’t get a hit off of Braves starter Mike Minor until the 5th inning when Alex Rodriguez led it off with a single. This was the beginning of Minor’s evenutal end. In comparison to his 7.1 innings of 1-run baseball in Atlanta, Minor lasted just 5.2 innings and gave up 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks despite striking out 7. Russell Martin hit a run-scoring ground-rule double to put the Yankees on the board. Derek Jeter got a two-run bases-loaded single in that same inning and put the Yankees ahead for the remainder of the night. Derek Jeter would single in one more run later and home runs by Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano put the Yankees on a clear path to victory tonight.

Win – CC Sabathia (9-3)

Loss – Mike Minor (3-5)
