Game 69: Key Collision

In the bottom of the 6th, the Cubs lined into a double play including a play at the plate involving former Rays 1st baseman Carlos Pena and catcher Russell Martin. Martin successfully held onto the ball despite Pena’s best efforts as he kept the Yankees slim one-run lead.  (Click Image to see hit)

Later, a run-scoring single by shortstop Eduardo Nunez proved very important as the two-run lead was cut to one when Reed Johnson hit a solo home run off of Mariano Rivera.

Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster struggled to find the plate the entire game as he walked 6 in 5.1 innings. A.J. Burnett did have the plate and a reliable backstop to field his sharp hook as he went 5.2 innings with only 2 run allowed and 8 strikeouts.
