Chicago White Sox 0 — New York Yankees 4
After being hit around for 14 runs, Hiroki Kuroda turned the momentum around in today’s 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox.
In 7 innings of work, Kuroda gave the bullpen a much-needed rest as he allowed no runs on 3 hits, 1 walk, and a season-high 11 strikeouts. Kuroda looked dominant in a game following a pair of games in which the bullpen took serious damage. David Robertson entered to start the 8th inning and was the usual dominant pitcher we have grown to see frequently with a perfect inning with 2 strikeouts. Boone Logan and Rafael Soriano combined to finish the game in the 9th inning.
Despite a complete game, 11-strikeout effort by Jake Peavy, the Yankees offense got to him the best way they know how to, with home runs. Curtis Granderson struck early with his 23rd home run in the 1st inning of today’s game. Dewayne Wise hit his 2nd home run of the season in the 5th inning as he continues making his name heard in this series. Robinson Cano hit his 11th home run of the month and his 19th of the season in the 6th inning. These three home runs and a run-scoring double by Dewayne Wise was more than enough for Kuroda as the Yankees try to split this four-game series tomorrow.
