Game 78: Pair of Two-Run Wins It

Chicago White Sox 2 — New York Yankees 4

A pair of home runs helped the Yankees split the 4-game series with a 4-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Phil Hughes went 8 strong innings. After a rough 1st inning in which he gave up 2 runs on 3 hits, he settled down. He would strikeout 8 with just the 2 early runs allowed as he went on to earn his 9th win of the season. Rafael Soriano came in for the 9th inning to get his 18th save with 2 strikeouts.

The Yankees offense continues to score by the long ball. Eric Chavez continues his impressive season with his 6th home run of the season in the 2nd inning to tie the game at 2 as a part of his two-hit day with a walk. Recently announced as the starting second baseman at this year’s All-Star Game, the captain of the American League in the Home Run Derby showed why the title was well-earned. Robinson Cano put the Yankees ahead in the 3rd inning with his 20th home run, a two-run blast. Yankees fans have grown accustomed to the idea that the Yankees scoring will be highly dependent on the home run.
