Instant Reaction: I think I like this Andujar kid!

Gut Reaction

That was a good, solid win!

Tanaka Coming Around

This is our second good start in a row from Masahiro Tanaka. Two starts ago in Oakland, he let in 5 runs but also struck out 10 and fell victim to shoddy defense. I don’t want to declare Tanaka fully back yet. I’m going to need two more good starts out of him before that happens. He is going in the right direction though. If he gets back to his old consistent self, that will go a long way for this club.

The Kids!

This team is full of so many rookies. We have veteran rookies and rookie rookies playing right now. Tyler Wade picked up his first big league hit and his first RBI to go with it. His buddy Miguel Andujar went out and big-timed him hard though. “I see your first hit and RBI and raise you three hits, four RBI’s and a stolen base!”

They say he’s got a big league bat, and he was quick to prove them right. He came out swinging hard and barreling balls.

Aaron Judge saw the young guys having fun and decided to join in since, as weird as it seems, he’s a rookie as well.

Chad Green!

Chad Green is the savior we need. If only he were alive yesterday.

Gary Had An Off Day

Gary Sanchez has played some sloppy defense this year. You can peg him as lazy… a lot of people are. I’ll be skeptically naive and say he just needs to get a little more aware of the situation at hand. After two missed balls in one inning, every player who has ever squatted behind the dish organized an intervention on him. Joe, Tony and Austin Romine all came up to him one after the other and had some words to say.

It’s fantastic that Gary has this support group to help him make the corrections. He has two coaches that were great defensive catchers to learn from. I’m not worried about him. The rocket arm is there and you can coach him to start blocking balls better. Was the gang up intervention helpful? It probably would have been better if just Joe talked to him and the rest got tabled for later. Getting intervened on is not fun. Anyone who has ever had a handful of friends go at them all at once knows the feeling.

Did Gary act out a little after the intervention? Yeah, he sure did. He didn’t run out a double play ball and went 0-5 on the night (his first three at-bats were all hot shots that got robbed). Let’s cool the jets on the Gary hate. Michael Kay was all over him today because Michael Kay is upset with the pace of play and Gary talks to his pitcher a lot. Don’t let Michael Kay make you dislike Gary Sanchez. Gary is a giant teddy bear who mashes home runs and is still young and learning.

Okay, my biased defense of El Gary rests.
