Loaisiga impresses as Yankees end 3-game skid

PHILADELPHIA — After getting swept by Tampa over the weekend, the Yankees are back in the win column after defeating the Phillies, 4-2, at Citizens Bank Park.

While he struggled last time out, Jonathan Loaisiga was impressive in tonight’s game, going five and a third, striking out eight batters and allowing just one hit. It was a good outing from the young Yankee right-hander.

Though he left the game with two men on and just an out, David Robertson got Rhys Hoskins and Odubel Herrera out to preserve the lead.

As for the offense, New York got just enough versus Vince Velasquez. Gleyber Torres opened the scoring with a double down the right field line that drove in Greg Bird, in the second inning.

Aaron Judge then doubled the lead with a solo homer in the fifth that got out of the ballpark in a hurry.

In the seventh, however, Philadelphia would cut its deficit to one, when Scott Kingery roped an RBI-single to left field against Robertson.

Dellin Betances was then brought in by Aaron Boone to end the seventh inning for Philly.

In the eighth, the Yankees were able to load the bases for Giancarlo Stanton, who drove in two more runs with a chopper over the shortstop.

An interesting move by Boone, though, was leaving Betances in to bat with two men in scoring position and less than two outs. While this resulted in some comedic swings, it did kill the New York rally.

Betances would get two outs in the eighth before being relieved by Aroldis Chapman. The big lefty did record his 23rd save of the season, but he was taken deep by Maikel Franco before completely shutting the door on the Phillies.

The series continues tomorrow with Luis Severino on the mound facing off with former Cy Young winner, Jake Arrieta.

Current Yankees Record: 51-25
