Power in full display as Yankees down Royals

KANSAS CITY — After six long days, the Yankees are finally back in the win column. Powered by five home runs, New York defeated the Kansas City Royal, 8-3, at Kauffman Stadium.

Gary Sanchez was the star of the day, accumulating four hits, two of which were round-trippers, and driving in three runs.

Aaron Hicks also hit his second inside-the-park home run of the season in the third, while Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton also went yard in the victory.

With Luis Severino on the mound, the eight runs were more than enough for the victory. The Yankee ace did not have his best stuff tonight, but he gave up just three runs, while striking out six Royals.

Though the scoreline would suggest otherwise, it was a close game between these two teams early on. While New York scored the game’s first two runs, KC would tie the game with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third.

It was Jorge Soler that drove in the tying run.

In the next inning, however, the Yankees would take the lead and not look back. After a walk to Clint Frazier, who started at DH for the first time this season, and a single by Ronald Torreyes, Torres took Royal starter Danny Duffy deep, with a drive to the bullpen in left field.

With the offense continuing to tack on runs, the Yankee bullpen did its job holding the lead.

Chad Green, Dellin Betances, and Aroldis Chapman all pitched scoreless innings to bring home the victory.

Sonny Gray and Erik Skoglund face off in the series finale tomorrow, with both teams going for the series victory.
