Preview – Yankees at Orioles (4/14/15)

CC Sabathia (0-1, 6.35 ERA) had an ok outing to start 2015 and will look to build on it against Miguel Gonzalez (0-1, 1.59 ERA) in game two against the O’s. The Yankees, and fans, thought Sabathia was better than his line indicated in his season debut. He allowed five runs (four earned) and eight hits in 95 pitches against Toronto. Sabathia called it “something to build on” as he returns from right knee surgery.

Keeping the ball in the park has been an issue for Sabathia over the last few years. He allowed a career high 28 homers in 2013 and 10 in his eight 2014 games. He hasn’t allowed one this year, but the Orioles are tied with the Yanks for most homers in the league with 12. He is 0-4 in his last six starts in Baltimore since the beginning of the 2012 season with a 5.54 ERA.

Gonzalez only allowed one run on three hits and five walks with five K’s but still took a loss in 5 2/3 innings against the Rays last week. He is 14-9 with a 3.49 ERA in his career at Camden Yards. Against the Yanks he has a 3.88 ERA in 10 games.

Tidbits:

The Orioles won 13 of 19 meetings last year, including seven of nine at Camden Yards.

X-Rays came back negative on Brett Gardner’s wrist after getting hit by a pitch in last nights game. Expect him to sit out tonight.

Stephen Drew hit the first pinch hit grand slam for the Bombers since Jorge Posada in 2001. He has homered in back to back games.
