Preview – Yankees at Rays (4/18/15)

Masahiro Tanaka (1-1, 7.00 ERA) goes against Jake Odorizzi (2-0, 0.61 ERA) in game two at the Trop. Tanaka picked up his first win of the season utilizing his four seamer against the Red Sox. He held them to four runs (three earned) in 97 pitches through five innings. This will be his first career start at the Trop. His only career start against the Rays was in May of last year when he pitched to a 9-3 victory in New York, allowing three runs in seven innings.

Odorizzi went 12 full innings before allowing his first run of the season, it came against the Blue Jays when he allowed just one run on two hits. He is 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA in five career appearances against the Yankees. In 17 starts at the Trop last season, he had a 2.62 ERA holding batters to a .197 batting average. In 14 road starts, his ERA was 6.32, with opponents hitting .301.

Friday night was Alex Rodriguez‘s 31st game with 2+ home runs and 4+ RBI’s, tying him with Jimmie Fox for third all time.

Brian McCann was 5-10 against Odorizzi last season with two home runs, a double, and four RBIs.
