Preview – Yankees at Tigers (4/20/15)

The Yanks travel to Detroit for a four game set fresh off their sweep of the Rays. CC Sabathia (0-2, 5.68 ERA) is on the mound for the Bombers and Alfredo Simon (2-0, 2.03 ERA) goes for the Tigers. Sabathia has been encouraging so far despite the two losses. He has recorded 15 K’s and just 1 walk in 2 starts while giving up just 1 homer. He hasn’t faced the Tigers since April 7, 2013 when he threw 7 scoreless innings for a W. He has 19 career wins against them.

Alex Rodriguez has hit three homers on the current road trip, including a 477 foot shot on Friday, the longest in the Majors this season. He now has 658 for his career and needs two more to tie Willie Mays for fourth place on the all time list. He is 0-4 lifetime against Simon.

Simon allowed just two hits in eight scoreless innings against Pittsburgh his last time out. He has walked just two batters in 13 1/3 innings this season with five strikeouts.

 

Tidbits:

Sabathia hasn’t won a game since April 24, 2014.

His last time out Sabathia passed Andy Pettitte for 36th place on MLB’s all time strikeout list.

Detroit ranks second in the league with a .301 average, second with a .476 slugging percentage and second with a .368 on-base percentage.
