Preview – Yankees at Tigers (4/21/15)

After dropping the first game of the series, Nathan Eovaldi (0-0, 4.35 ERA) looks to get things going against Kyle Lobstein (1-0, 5.40 ERA) in game two. Eovaldi held the Orioles to two runs and eight hits in his last start, striking out nine through 101 pitches in five innings. He took a no decision after the bullpen gave up five runs and blew the game. He has faced the Tigers once, taking a no decision through six innings and 5 K’s.

Lobstein will make his second start of the year in place of Justin Verlander who is on the DL. In his first start against the Indians, he gave up three earned runs on eight hits over five innings and got the W.

Lobstein will be coming off nine days rest since Detroit wanted to see how Verlander was feeling before making a decision. He threw an extra pen session to remain loose. “Basically kind of what I did in Spring Training,” Lobstein said. “A few of my starts were about nine days in between with the split squad games. So I just applied the preparation that I did in the spring”

Tidbits:

With his homer Monday, Mark Teixeira is now fifth on the all time list for switch hitters at 367. Carlos Beltran is next on the list with 373.

Eovaldi is 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA in eight career April starts but 0-5 with a 6.23 ERA over his last six road starts.
