Preview: Yankees at Twins (7/5/14)

New York Yankees v Baltimore Orioles

David Phelps (3-4, 4.26 ERA) looks to make it three in the row for the Yanks against Yohan Pino (0-2, 6.32 ERA) and the Twins. Phelps pitched well in his last outing against the Rays. He allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings taking a no decision. He has gone 2-0 with a 3.70 ERA in his last four outings after a four game losing.

Pino has yet to pick up a win in his first three Major League starts. In his last start against KC, He gave up four runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings, before that he lasted just three innings against the Angles. “It didn’t look like he was going to have much,” Ron Gardenhire said. “He hung in there pretty good and made better pitches as it went along.”

Brian McCann sat out Friday’s game with a sore right foot be he should be back in the lineup for the game. “His foot’s a little sore,” Joe Girardi said Friday. “It was sore last night, and hopefully the day off will help him.”

The Twins will honor Derek Jeter Saturdayย  by presenting him with a farewell gift.ย “Everywhere I’ve gone, it’s been above and beyond anything I’ve expected,” Jeter said. “I don’t expect anyone to do anything for me, but they’ve been very kind and have given me a lot of nice gifts and given a lot to my foundation, which means a lot to me as well. I’ve been fortunate in that sense, because it’s not something I think they need to do or they have to do.” It won’t be his last time at Target Field however, with the Cap being the starting shortstop for the AL in the All Star Game.
