It’s up to Masahiro Tanaka (8-1, 2.06 ERA) to avoid the sweep at the hands of Drew Pomeranz (5-2, 2.37 ERA) and the A’s in the matinee at the stadium. Tanaka continued his dominance in a Sunday win against the Twins. He allowed just four hits and one unearned run over 8 innings of work, his ERA dropped to 2.06, is the best in the AL. He improved to 8-1 and threw over 100 pitches for the ninth time in 11 starts.ย “It’s definitely challenging,” said Tanaka about facing Oakland. “I think it’s really important for us as a team to be able to get wins from those types of teams. I’m going to try to go out there and do my best.”

Pomeranz gave up five runs in 5 1/3 in his last outing against the Angels after allowing just five runs in 32 2/3 innings the rest of the season. Despite the rough start he got the win.ย “The walks don’t help,” he said. “I may just be trying to do too much at that point to make sure I stay in the game, make sure I’m being effective and efficient.”ย ย He has walked seven in his last two starts spanning onlyย 9 1/3 innings.

Carlos Beltran has experienced no further issues with his elbow and could rejoin the lineup as aDH for the game.“He could possibly be in the lineup tomorrow,” Girardi said Wednesday. “We’ll make a decision tomorrow, see how he feels, and he could be in the lineup tomorrow.”
