Preview: Yankees vs Blue Jays (9/18/14)

The Yankees final homestand of the season begins with Shane Greene (5-3, 3.56 ERA) taking on R.A. Dickey (13-12, 3.84 ERA) and the Blue Jays. Greene’s last start against theĀ OriolesĀ lasted 5 1/3 innings giving upĀ just two runs and striking out nine, earning him his fifth Major League victory.

Dickey pitched his 20th quality start of the season SaturdayĀ in a win over the Rays. HeĀ has thrown six plus innings in 16 of his last 17 starts and has pitchedĀ 196 2/3 innings this year year, on courseĀ to his fourth 200 inning season in a row.

This game marks the beginning of the end for Derek Jeter. This will be hisĀ final homestand but he’s not letting it change his approach.Ā “I don’t know. I really don’t know. We’ll see, but I can’t answer it,” Jeter said. “I’m trying not to anticipate anything or try to figure out what it’s going to be like. We’ll find out, but I really have no idea.”Ā He was asked if it was surreal to be heading into his final homestand, he said:Ā “Not yet. Maybe when we get there. Right now, I’m just happy we won a game, and I got a hit. I’m trying to enjoy it. It feels good.”

“It’s strange, you know, because he’s been around here a long time,” said Joe Girardi. “I was here when he burst onto the scene in 1996, and it’s amazing how fast time goes when you think about it. Twenty years later, here he is and he’s still playing. It’s hard to believe.”
