Preview: Yankees vs Orioles (8/31/13)

Ivan Nova (7-4, 3.14 ERA) leads the charge for October against Scott Feldman (4-3, 4.56 ERA) in a matinee showdown in the Bronx. Nova’s last start against the Rays was erratic, he tied a career high with six walks but still managed to hold them to just two runs and six hits over 6 2/3 innings in a no decision. He has completed at least six innings in nine consecutive starts, and he’s managed to hold the opponent to three earned runs or fewer eight times in that span. The righty has allowed just five home runs all season, and he’s 4-2 with a career 4.95 ERA in 10 appearances against Baltimore.

Since Feldman was acquired by Baltimore, he has posted a 4-3 record and a 4.56 ERA in nine starts, and he’s completed at least five innings in eight of those outings while limiting opponents to just four home runs.

The Orioles and Yankees are proving yet againt that the AL East is the most competetive division in baseball. The East is the only division with four 70 win teams and four teams within eight games of first place. The Yankees trail third place Baltimore by a half game heading into todays game. The Yanks and Orioles are both within five games of both Wild Card spots.
