Preview: Yankees vs Rangers (6/27/13)

The rubber match falls on Phil Hughes (3-6, 5.09 ERA) in the afternoon game against Derek Holland (5-4, 3.43 ERA) and the Rangers. Hughes is on extended rest, coming off seven days since his previous start, against the Dodgers. He struggled in that outing, allowing five runs on 10 hits over six innings in the 6-0 loss. In four career appearances (three starts) against Texas, Hughes is 2-1 with a 2.00 ERA.

Over his last four starts, Holland is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA. He has made seven starts and one relief appearance against the Yankees in the regular season over his career and is 0-5 with an 8.85 ERA. However, he did beat them in relief during the 2010 ALCS. “I know New York has been pretty tough, but my job is not to worry about that,” Holland said. “I need to turn the page and make something else happen.”

Notes on the game.

Mark Teixeira will have season ending wrist surgery. He is expecting to be healthy in about six months.

Ichiro Suzuki is batting .373 with three homers and seven RBIs over his last 13 games.
