Preview – Yankees vs Red Sox (4/10/15)

It’s time to kick off another season of Yankees Red Sox baseball. This game will feature two pitchers making their debut for their new team. Nathan Eovaldi will be on the mound for the Yanks and Wade Miley will go for Boston. Eovaldi is making his Yankees debut since being acquired from the Marlins in a five player trade in December. The hard thrower set career highs last season in starts (33), innings pitched (199 2/3) and strikeouts (142).

Eovaldi gave up the most hits in the NL last season with 223. He says he will try to elevate his fastball and incorporate his splitter against Boston. He also plans on throwing a few curveballs after working extensively with Larry Rothschild.

Lefty Miley makes his Red Sox debut after being acquired from Arizona in December. In his only start in the Bronx, he allowed four hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings taking a no decision. Last year with the D-Backs he went 8-12 with a 4.34 ERA.

Sandy Leon is also making his first start for the Red Sox after coming over from the Nationals at the end of Spring Training. He has a strong arm and a good rapport with pitchers. The switch hitter has a .189 BA in 95 career at bats.

Tidbits:

The Yankees dropped the rubber match against Toronto. They now haven’t won an opening series since 2011.

This game is the first of 18 matchups for the rivals this season.

Holy cow! The game will be the Yankees first back on PIX11.
