Yankees Game 102: Ichiro’s First Homer in Third Straight Loss

Baltimore Orioles 5 — New York Yankees 4

Three home runs was not enough in the 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Freddy Garcia scattered 9 hits over 6 innings and gave the Yankees a solid outing and opportunity to win. Former Yankee Wilson Betemit put the Orioles on the scoreboard with a solo home run to lead off the 3rd inning. A pair of sacrifice flies brought in two more in the 5th inning. After Garcia’s 6 innings of work, Boone Logan entered the game and gave up a run-scoring double to Nick Markakis following a walk of Omar Quintanilla. David Phelps would enter following the double and would give up one inherited runner in his 1.2 innings of work.

Orioles starter Miguel Gonzalez was the victim of 3 home runs in his 6.2 innings of work. Raul Ibanez hit the first home run, his 14th of the season, in the 5th inning. Then in the 7th inning, Gonzalez gave up back-to-back home runs to Eric Chavez and Ichiro Suzuki. For Ichiro, this was his 100th career home run and first as a Yankee. The Yankees were also the victim of another injury as Mark Teixeira would exit the game in the 8th inning with an injury. This loss was the third loss in a row for the Yankees.
