Yankees Game 105: CC Gets the CG W

Seattle Mariners 3 — New York Yankees 6

CC Sabathia was absolutely dominant in tonight’s 6-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.

On an efficient 103 pitches, CC Sabathia struck out 10 over the complete game effort on his part. The first hit that Sabathia surrendered didn’t come until the 4th after 10 consecutive outs but it was a solo home run to Casper Wells. The next hit would come in the 8th inning when Miguel Olivo doubled into the left field corner. The last hit Sabathia would give up would follow a walk as Dustin Ackley hit a two-run home run but it didn’t rattle the large left-hander as he would get the final 3 outs en route to his 11th win of the season. All of his pitches were working as he had the fastball getting by batters, the changeup dropping below swings and breaking balls leaving left-handed batters flailing out of the zone and right-handed batters jammed.

Curtis Granderson got to lead-off for the 4th time this season and would take advantage of a run-scoring opportunity in the 3rd inning. Ichiro Suzuki extended his hitting streak to 10 games and Russell Martin hit a double before Granderson brought in his two teammates with a two-run single to center field to get the Yankees offense started. Eric Chavez would hit his 10th home run of the season when he hit a Yankee Stadium home run to right field that barely cleared the wall in the 6th inning. Kevin Millwood didn’t put together a terrible start as he allowed just 4 runs despite giving up 9 hits in his 6 innings of work. The Mariners bullpen would give up additional runs as reliever Carter Capps made his major league debut with 100 MPH fastballs and sharp breaking curveballs but seemingly no control of these power pitches. He would give up a single and a walk before getting his first out on a sacrifice bunt. Former Met Oliver Perez took over in the inning and two inherited runners. The Yankees hit 4 for 9 with runners in scoring position as it seemed like the Yankees made the most of all the best opportunities to tonight’s win.
