Yankees Game 112: Ichiro Comes Up Big

New York Yankees 10 — Toronto Blue Jays 4

Ichiro Suzuki ties a career-high 5 RBIs in tonight’s 10-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Freddy Garcia took the mound in tonight’s game and pitched a solid and efficient 6 innings. Blue Jays infielder Kelly Johnson was the offensive force that got to Garcia. In the 2nd inning, Kelly Johnson hit a solo home run deep into right field. Johnson would bring in the other run off of Garcia with a double into right field in the 4th inning. Garcia would settle down and just have the two runs allowed on 5 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts. He was also very efficient with his pitch count as he exited the game with 78 pitches. The bullpen would surrender two more runs, many on an inherited situation as David Robertson gave up Joba Chamberlain’s run and Cody Eppley gave up Clay Rapada’s run.

Ichiro Suzuki highlighted an outstanding night by tying a career-high five RBIs. The Yankees took advantage of sloppy play by the Blue Jays defensively. With runners on 1st and 2nd,  Jayson Nix attempted a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position but a throw to 3rd base to get the lead runner was sent into left field to bring in the first run of the game. Ichiro Suzuki hit into a force out with the bases loaded that brought in the second run of the game. In the 3rd inning, some sloppy defense took place again as the shift on Mark Teixeira’s at-bat disrupted an attempt a double play that put a runner in scoring position for Robinson Cano. And Cano took advantage of this with a single to right field that also included sloppiness by pitcher Ricky Romero, who didn’t backup the catcher as the throw from right field got by him. The offense didn’t appear again until the 8th inning when Mark Teixeira led off the inning with a home run and Ichiro Suzuki would bring in two runs. The Yankees would pile on more runs in the 9th when nine batters would come up in a 4-run inning that included the two-run double by Ichiro Suzuki to complete his big night.
