Yankees game 120 preview (8/20/15)

Ivan Nova (5-4, 3.57 ERA) opens up the four game set against Josh Tomlin (0-1, 2.84 ERA) and the Indians. Nova took a comebacker off his pitching hand his last time out against Toronto, but stayed in the game and won’t miss a start. He threw a season high seven innings giving up three runs on five hits and picking up the win. He hasn’t faced Cleveland since June 10, 2011, when he gave up two runs through seven in the win.

This will be Tomlin’s second start of the season after missing three months recovering from shoulder surgery. He gave up two runs on two solo shots through 6 1/3 innings against the Twins in his last outing. His offense only managed to push one run across, so he took the loss. The last time he faced the Yanks was out of the pen in August of last year, he pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings giving up two hits. His last start against them was in July of last year when he gave up four runs on eight hits (two homers) through seven in a no decision.

Tidbits:

Batters are hitting .210 off Nova in his last five outings.

Tomlin has allowed 1.6 homers per nine innings over the last four years. The Yanks have 161 homers this year.

Nova has won four of his last five starts.
