Yankees game 121 preview (8/21/15)

Masahiro Tanaka (8-5, 3.56 ERA) and Carlos Carrasco (11-9, 3.63 ERA) will be on the bump for the second game of the set. Tanaka is coming off his best start of the season. He threw a complete game holding Toronto to just one run on five hits with eight K’s picking up the win. He has started against Cleveland just once in his career, a loss back on July 8, 2014. He gave up five runs on 10 hits (two homers) through 6 2/3 innings. It was his last start until September since he went on the DL with a partially torn UCL.

Carrasco has had a strong second half. In his six starts since the break, he has a 2.51 ERA and batters are hitting just .163 against him. He gave up two runs on six hits through seven in his last outing against the Twins. His offense manged just one run, so he took the loss. He faced the Yanks two weeks ago, allowing just two runs through eight taking a no decision.

Tidbits:

Batters are hitting .193 against Tanaka in his last seven starts and .119 against Carrasco in his last four.

The Yankees lead the AL with 99 first inning runs while Cleveland is last with 48.

Bats have a .810 OPS in the first inning off Indians’ pitchers.
