If Ivan Nova (5-7, 4.50 ERA) and the Yanks want to avoid an embarrassing series loss to the Rays, they’ll need to get through Chris Archer (12-10, 2.78 ERA). Nova gave up three runs through six innings to the Sox his last time out, but since his last name isn’t Eovaldi he didn’t get any run support and took his third loss in a row. He faced the Rays back on July 5, giving up four runs (three earned) through five in the loss.
Archer threw six shutout innings against the O’s his last time out, giving up four hits for his 18th quality start of the year. In five career games in Yankee Stadium, he is 3-0 with a 1.54 ERA.
