Yankees game 14 preview (4/21/16)

If the Yankees and Luis Severino (0-2, 5.91 ERA) want to avoid a sweep, they will have to go through former Yankee Rich Hill (1-2, 4.15 ERA.) Severino’s struggles begin and end with his 15.2 hits per nine innings, a far cry from his 7.7 in 2015. He’s leaving pitches over the plate and batters are taking advantage. In his last start against Seattle, he gave up four runs on eight hits, one homer, through 5.2 innings. This will be his first time facing Oakland.

Hill took the loss his last time out against the Royals, allowing three runs on nine hits in just 4.1 innigns. It was the second start of his three that he wasn’t able to complete five innings. He was in the Yankee pen in 2014, making 14 appearances with a 1.69 ERA through 5.1 innings. With the Red Sox last year, Hill threw six innings of two run ball but took the loss.

Tidbits:

Severino has a 2.89 ERA against teams he’s never faced and a 4.50 ERA against teams he has seen before.

Hill leads the league in hit batters with four.

The Yanks have lost six of their last seven.
