Yankees game 15 preview (4/22/16)

CC Sabathia (1-1, 5.06 ERA) takes to mound against Matt Moore (1-0, 2.95 ERA) to open up the Rays first trip to the Bronx this season. Sabathia became the ninth southpaw in Yankee history to make 200 starts with the team in his last time out against the Mariners. It was a respectable start, giving up just three runs on seven hits through 4.2 innings. However, his bats only pushed across two runs so he took the loss. He has faced the Rays more than any other team, and holds a 13-14 record with a 3.73 ERA in 38 starts.

Moore has had a great start to 2016. In his most recent outing against the White Sox, he gave up two runs on five hits over 6.1 innings in the win. He hasn’t given up more than three runs or five hits so far this season, and has 21 strikeouts to just three walks. In the new Yankee Stadium, he is 3-1 with a 4.66 ERA.

The Rays’ blueprint to success against the Yanks this year? Avoid Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller at all costs.

“They’re really focused on shortening the game,” manager Kevin Cash said. “This year, they have the potential to be even more dominating. You’re talking about two of the best on one team.”

Tidbits:

Sabathia is the all time leader in losses (14), games started (38), innings (262 2/3), hits allowed (245), home runs (34) and strikeouts (244) against Tampa Bay.

Moore is 5-2 with a 3.83 ERA in 10 career starts against the Yankees.

Evan Longoria’s 41 RBIs in the new Yankee Stadium are the most by any visiting player. His 14 homers are second to Jose Bautista.
