Yankees Game 19: When it rained, it poured on Luis Severino

New York Yankees 1 – Texas Rangers 10

With storm clouds approaching, the Texas Rangers made it pour on the Yankees and Luis Severino.

As the Yankees went down in order meekly against Rangers starter A.J. Griffin, the Rangers came out with a run in the first inning but the game really got away from Luis Severino and the Yankees in the third inning.

After getting a pair of ground outs, Nomar Mazara got on base with a single. Adrian Beltre followed with a double to put two in scoring position. With inclement weather approaching, the Yankees decided to intentionally walk Prince Fielder to load the bases for a force out at any base but a walk to Ian Desmond followed, plating a run for the Rangers. Mitch Moreland added two runs with a single to center field. A wild pitch plated a fourth run of the inning and Elvis Andrus made it a five-run inning with a single of his own. After three innings, the Yankees trailed the Rangers by six.

In three innings, Luis Severino allowed six runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out one. While Severino was throwing strikes, they were hittable strikes, evident by his dreadful line.

Ivan Nova came in for long relief and came out of the bullpen strong, generating five ground outs to start the appearance but Ian Desmond got a hold of a high pitch and put it over the wall to put the Rangers ahead by seven. The Rangers made it eight with a pair of doubles in the sixth inning.

The Yankees avoided a shutout in the seventh inning when Brett Gardner led off with a walk. Carlos Beltran and Mark Teixeira followed with a pair of singles with the second single bringing home Gardner. The other bright spot for the Yankees manned third base as Ronald Torreyes got a pair of hits in his four at-bats.

Ivan Nova allowed one more run in on a wild pitch and Chasen Shreve gave up a solo home run, making it 10 runs for the Rangers in a dreadful night for the Yankees.
