The Yankees take the field tonight in sole possession of first place in the AL East. They look to extend that lead tonight as they take on the Tampa Bay Rays in the second game of a three-game home set. Having taken the first four from the Rays, the Bombers turn to Chase Whitley, called up for tonight’s start.
Whitley starts tonight to help the rotation, specifically Mashahiro Tanaka gain an extra day of rest. With his call up, the Yankees optioned Gregorio Petit to Triple-A leaving the Yankees with Alex Rodriguez as the emergency back-up middle infielder tonight.
