Yankees Game 28: Eights for Nathan Eovaldi and offense

Boston Red Sox 2 – New York Yankees 8

Building off of yesterday’s exciting win, the Yankees looked to get a win streak going.

After a scoreless first inning between Nathan Eovaldi and the Red Sox’s David Price, the Red Sox got on the board first in the second inning. After grazing the jersey of Hanley Ramirez for a hit batter with one out, Brock Holt hit a two-out single to put the Red Sox ahead.

In the bottom of the third, Chase Headley led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Didi Gregorius. With a runner in scoring position, Austin Romine went to right-center for a run-scoring double as it rolled all the way to the wall.

The good times kept going for the Yankees as they got into deep counts against Price and put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Starlin Castro and Mark Teixeira led off with a pair of singles. Dustin Ackley walked with one out to load the bases. After the second out came on a shallow fly out to right field, Didi Gregorius went under the strike zone to scoop a double into the right field corner for a bases-clearing double.

The Red Sox got on the board with a solo home run from Jackie Bradley in the fifth inning but the Yankees kept the pressure on Price and the Red Sox. After striking out Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks and Starlin Castro walked to start a rally. Mark Teixeira struck out for the second out but Carlos Beltran saved the inning with a double to score two runs and knock starter David Price out of the game.

The bottom of the lineup led off the sixth inning against reliever Matt Barnes and with one out, Didi Gregorius hit a single to center field and Austin Romine reached with a single of his own. Brett Gardner walked to load the bases and Aaron Hicks got the productive out on a sacrifice fly to right field to increase the lead to five.

Nathan Eovaldi retired the last seven in a row and looked to be ready for the ninth inning but some more bottom of the lineup production let Eovaldi pack it in for the day. Chase Headley got his second hit of the day with a single and on a deep fly ball to left that hit the top of the wall for a run-scoring double.

In eight innings, Nathan Eovaldi allowed two runs on six hits without a walk and six strikeouts.

Nick Goody got the ninth inning and struck out two in a perfect inning to wrap up the Yankees second win in a row. Tomorrow night, they go for the sweep.
