Yankees game 37 preview (5/15/15)

The Yanks AL East gauntlet is finally over. They will now travel to Kansas City as Michael Pineda (5-0, 2.72 ERA) takes on Chris Young (2-0, 0.78 ERA). No, not that Chris Young. Pineda’s Mothers Day outing against the Orioles was nothing short of spectacular. He struck out 16 while giving up six hits with just one run and no walks through seven innings. The 16 K’s tied David Cone for most in a game for the Yanks. His 18.00 strikeout to walk ratio is the best in the AL.

Young pitched six innings allowing just three hits and no earned runs against the Tigers. He has allowed seven hits in 23 innings, and his two wins have both come at home.

Royals reliever Wade Davis is familiar with the Yankees from his Tampa Bay days. He is the winningest reliever in the AL over the past two seasons with 11 wins since the start of 2014, tied for the lead during that span with Miami’s Bryan Morris and Pittsburgh’s Tony Watson.

Tidbits:

The Royals haven’t won a series against the Yanks since 2008.

Mark Teixeira is fourth in the Majors with 11 home runs. He is averaging a home run every 10 at bats, third best in the Majors.

Pineda has issued just 3 walks this season.
