Yankees game 40 preview (5/19/15)

Nathan Eovaldi (3-1, 4.14 ERA) and the Yanks travel to DC to take on Gio Gonzalez (3-2, 4.25 ERA) and the Nationals for two games. Eovaldi took a tough luck loss his last time out allowing four late runs in 7 1/3 innings against the Rays. Those runs all came in his last two innings of work. He is 2-4 with a 4.76 ERA against the Nationals and gave up two earned runs or fewer in four starts.

Gonzalez allowed five runs on nine hits through five innings of work against Arizona. His offense saved him from taking the loss by scoring four in the top of the ninth giving him a no decision. This will be his seventh time facing the Yanks in his career. He is 1-5 with a 6.75 ERA against them.

Bryce Harper has been tearing through pitchers as of late. He leads the league in RBIs, runs and walks and is second in homers. The Yanks have been forced to take notice. “I think we’ve all recognized his talent for a long time,” Joe Girardi said. “I think he’s starting to fulfill the expectations, and he’ll fill them for some time.”
