Yankees game 45 preview (5/25/16)

Six games is a nice win streak, but Ivan Nova (3-1, 3.26 ERA) wants to make it seven against Marco Estrada (1-2, 2.61 ERA.) Nova has continued to impress since stepping into the rotation. In his last outing against the A’s, he allowed a single run on four hits through six innings and just 62 pitches. He faced Toronto back in April out of the pen, giving up four runs on five hits in one inning of work. He is 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA in his four starts this year. Many Jays have had success off Nova in their career. Jose Bautista is 8-23 (.348) with a homer, Josh Donaldson is 7-16 (.438) and Edwin Encarnacion is 10-30 (.333) with a homer.

Estrada is also coming off a single run allowed outing against the Twins. It came off three hits, one walk and nine K’s through eight innings. He has given up three runs or less in six of his eight starts this season. This is his first time facing the Bombers this season. He last saw them in September, allowing two runs on six hits over 6.2 no decision innings. Like Nova and the Jays’ bats, a lot of Yankees have had no problems hitting off Estrada. Carlos Beltran is 7-24 (.292) with three homers, Starlin Castro is 12-27 (.444) with four doubles and a triple and Jacoby Ellsbury is 6-17 (.353) with two doubles and a triple.

Tidbits:

The Blue Jays won seven consecutive games in the Bronx last season, the longest streak since the 1976 Orioles.

Chase Headley Russell Martin has 122 at-bats without an extra base hit.

Michael Saunders has 10 extra base hits with six homers over his last 11 games.
